Civilians and hobbyist with night vision capabilities have long awaited the
Crimson Trace LGD-417 to solve a simple problem. How to shoot a pistol in low light or no light situations when using night vision devices. There are other methods of use which work, but we were looking forward to purchasing the
LGD-417 made by Crimson Trace. Earlier today I spoke with Michael from Crimson Trace on their new product. The
LGD-417 which uses a <5mW red visible laser and a .7mW IR laser.
Instead of showing off my new toy I have some bad news. Michael from Crimson Trace won't sell their eye safe .7mW IR laser to civilians, only military. I was a bit perplexed by this answer, as the much raved about
DBAL I2 is available for civilian purchase and is being well received in the civilian market. Here is a picture of the

Just thought I would let everyone know the policy from Michael at Crimson Trace. I called to inquire about the
LGD-417 which is a laser grip device with the standard 5mw red Laser and also a .7mw IR laser, which can be used with night vision. Michael informed me that it is their internal policy that they will not sell this unit to civilians, but could not explain an answer. When I informed him that civilians could in fact purchase the same spec laser aiming device
DBAL I2 with the same specifications, he had no answer. Michael simply repeated "it was an internal policy" at Crimson Trace not to sell the
LGD-417 to civilians. Michael can be reached at 877-778-1370, let them know there is a demand for the
LGD-417 on the civilian side. I was really hoping to review the
LGD-417, but I guess it will have to wait.
